Some quick facts about Loudoun County:* Loudoun has 16,000 horses. More than any other county in the state.
About one horse for every 11 people.* There were large buffalo herds here before white settlers came.
* Loudoun was created in 1757. Originally it was part of Fairfax County.
* Leesburg, named for Lighthorse Harry Lee, was earlier called George Town.
* Fox hunting began here around 1748.
Today there are 10 active hunts in the area.* Loudoun was the northernmost county in the Confederacy.
* In 1790, Loudoun was Virginia's most populous county.
* The Earl of Loudoun, for whom the county was named,
never set foot in Virginia.* The Constitution & Declaration of Independence were hidden here
when the British burned Washington in the War of 1812.
